Six ways in

Not every product arrives with a barcode

Pick the identifier your supplier actually sent. EAN and UPC match most precisely because they are unique worldwide; the other four cover the products that never got one.

  • EAN

    The 13-digit European Article Number. Unique worldwide, which makes it the most precise of the six. If you have it, use it.

  • UPC

    The 12-digit North American barcode. As precise as an EAN, and the one you usually get on catalogs sourced from the US.

  • Model number

    The manufacturer's own model ID. Strong for electronics, appliances and machines, where the model number is what people search for.

  • SKU

    Your internal code. It only works when your SKUs follow an industry convention or match the supplier's own, so it is worth testing on a handful first.

  • Brand plus product name

    A natural-language search for products that never received a barcode, such as own-brand goods and niche assortments.

  • Brand plus MPN

    The manufacturer part number with its brand. This is the pairing that works for spare parts, components and B2B catalogs.

  1. 01

    Select the products

    Filter down to what is actually empty, with no description, no attributes and no images, and select those. There is no point researching a product that is already complete.

    A selection that is worth spending credits on.

  2. 02

    Pick the identifier

    Tell WISEPIM which column holds the identifier and which type it is. If half the catalog has an EAN and half does not, run the EAN pass first and brand plus name over the remainder.

    The research knows what it is searching for.

    Let the research run

    Each product is looked up across several sources and the answers are compared before anything is proposed. The run works in the background with progress per product, so you can leave the page.

The EAN identifies one product worldwide, so it is a reliable key to look that product up with. WISEPIM searches several sources for it, compares what they say, and proposes descriptions, specifications, images and a category for your review.

UPC, model number, SKU, brand plus product name, and brand plus MPN. EAN and UPC are the most precise because they are globally unique. SKU only works when your codes match an industry or supplier convention, so test it on a handful of products before running a batch.

Reliable enough to review, not reliable enough to publish unseen, which is why nothing is written until you accept it. Several sources are compared and each proposed value shows where it came from. Obscure and own-brand products return less than mainstream ones, and the run tells you which products came back empty.

Yes. Select the products, choose the identifier and the run processes them in the background with progress per product. Web research costs more credits per product than the other enrichment types, so filter to the products that are genuinely missing data first.

It works across electronics, fashion, home, food, health, sport and everything else, but not equally well. Products with a manufacturer behind them and a public spec sheet return the most; unbranded and made-to-order goods return the least.
