Akeneo has a handful of edge cases that quietly break catalog syncs. Here's what we've run into in production — and how WISEPIM handles each one.
100% Complete in Akeneo Is Not the Same as Ready to Sell
Akeneo completeness only checks that required attributes are filled in. A product can be 100% complete and still have a very short description, no meta title, and no image alt text. Akeneo checks that fields are present, not that they are good.
How WISEPIM handles it
When WISEPIM exports to Akeneo it runs a Quality Guard check first and skips any product that does not pass. Use WISEPIM AI to fill in weak fields before you export.
Big Imports Can Stop on a Login Timeout
Akeneo access tokens expire after about 1 hour. WISEPIM gets one token at the start of an import and does not refresh it, so a very large import (100k+ SKUs) can run past the hour and stop with a 401 error.
How WISEPIM handles it
Just start the import again. WISEPIM skips the SKUs it already imported, so the next run picks up where it left off. There is no token refresh, so a fresh run is how long imports finish.
Import Reads One Locale, and Export Does Not Target a Locale
On import WISEPIM reads one locale per product (it prefers en_US, then en, then nl_NL, then nl). On export it writes values with no locale and no channel scope. If your Akeneo catalog uses several locales or channels, the other locales are not read, and pushed values land on the default, unscoped value.
How WISEPIM handles it
Use WISEPIM for one main locale per catalog. Keep locale-specific and channel-specific content in Akeneo, and check the exported fields in Akeneo so a round-trip does not overwrite a translated value.
Only One Image Comes Across, and Asset Manager Is Not Read
WISEPIM imports a single image per product: the first one it finds on the media file attribute. It does not pull image galleries, and it does not read Akeneo Asset Manager assets.
How WISEPIM handles it
Keep extra images and Asset Manager files in Akeneo. In WISEPIM, treat the imported image as the main product image and add more images inside WISEPIM if you need them.
Variants Come In as Separate Products
WISEPIM imports from Akeneo's flat product list. It stores each product's family code, but it does not read product models or group variants. Configurable products arrive as separate flat products, not as one grouped item with variant axes.
How WISEPIM handles it
Expect variants to show up as individual products in WISEPIM. Keep the product-model and variant structure in Akeneo if you need it grouped.

Family
Akeneo's grouping that decides which attributes apply to a product. A product belongs to exactly one family, and the family determines completeness rules.
WISEPIM imports families as product types and maps required-attribute lists. Family changes in Akeneo are propagated without dropping unrelated attribute values.
Family Variant
Defines the variant axes (e.g. size + color) for a configurable product. Generates a parent product + variants tree under a single SKU.
WISEPIM preserves the variant axes when importing or pushing back, so configurable products remain configurable after a round-trip.
Channel
Akeneo's term for a distribution destination — a storefront, marketplace, or print catalog. Each channel has its own locales and category tree.
WISEPIM mirrors Akeneo channels as feed profiles, so locale and channel scopability survive on the WISEPIM side.
Locale
A language + region pair (e.g. en_GB, fr_FR). Localizable attributes have one value per locale per channel.
WISEPIM matches Akeneo locale codes 1:1 for translations and falls back gracefully for locales added after the initial import.
Completeness
A percentage score of how many required attributes are filled for a product in a given channel × locale. Akeneo blocks publishing below a threshold.
WISEPIM exposes Akeneo's completeness alongside its own content-quality grade, so editors see both 'fields filled' and 'fields good enough to ship'.
Asset Manager
Enterprise-only module for managing rich product assets (images, video, documents) with locale/channel scopability.
WISEPIM reads and writes Asset Manager references on Enterprise edition; on Community it falls back to the simpler media file attribute.
Akeneo Connect
Akeneo's app marketplace, where third-party connectors and apps are published.
WISEPIM publishes through the same channel discoverability that Akeneo Connect provides, but installs are configured inside WISEPIM rather than per-app.
Reference Data
