Why it matters

Internal links are the underused lever

Every internal link is a vote you cast for a page within your own site. The pages with the most links from the rest of your catalogue build authority and rank higher. The pages with none, your unlinked pages, are invisible to Google no matter how good their content is.

For large product catalogues, the internal link structure breaks constantly. Products launch without links from category pages. Seasonal collections go live but never receive a single mention. Redirects chain together until the link strength they pass drops to nothing. And broken links quietly waste crawl budget on dead ends.

WISEPIM audits all your internal links: maps how link strength flows, surfaces unlinked and under-linked pages with the highest ranking potential, and recommends the specific links to add. The companion link-audit view catches broken URLs and redirect chains so you fix the plumbing alongside the strategy.

How it works

How the audit works

From a full link map to a prioritised fix list in four steps.

  1. Connect your sitemap and store

WISEPIM crawls your site's internal links using your sitemap and connected platform. No separate crawler setup needed.

  2. Read the link equity map

See how link strength flows across your catalogue. Products and categories are scored by inbound internal links so you instantly spot the well-linked pages and the neglected ones.

  3. Find unlinked and under-linked products

Filter to pages with zero or very few internal links. WISEPIM ranks them by SEO potential so you prioritise the ones most worth linking to.

  4. Fix broken links and redirect chains

Switch to the link audit view to see every broken internal URL and every redirect chain. Each entry shows the source page, the broken target and the recommended fix.

An unlinked page, also called an orphan page, is a page with no other page on your site linking to it. Google discovers pages primarily through links, so if nothing links to a product, it is unlikely to be crawled regularly or to build the ranking signals it needs.

A redirect chain is two or more consecutive redirects between a source URL and its final destination. Each hop in the chain loses a portion of the link equity being passed, and long chains slow down Googlebot unnecessarily.
