Medium, Technique & Authenticity

Study in Ochre No. 3 is an original oil painting by Tomas Erven, completed in 2023 and executed on Belgian linen. It is a one-of-a-kind work, not a print or an edition. Erven builds the surface with a palette knife in a dense impasto technique. Paint is laid down in thick, deliberate ridges that catch raking light, so the ochres shift in tone as the viewer moves past. Linen gives the work a fine, resilient weave beneath those layers, and the knife marks remain visible as a record of the artist's hand. The result reads as both landscape and texture study, with the medium itself carrying much of the image. For the discerning buyer, the documentation is clear. The painting is signed lower right and again on the verso, and it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. It is in excellent condition and arrives ready to hang.
