How eBay fees work
On ebay.com, most categories pay a final value fee of 13.6% on the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 and 2.35% on the portion above, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects.
Some categories use other rates: books, movies and music pay 15.3%, trading cards and coins 13.25%, guitars and basses 6.7%, and athletic shoes of $150 or more pay 8% with no per-order fee. Jewelry and handbags switch to a lower rate above a price point, and watches are charged in three tiers.
On ebay.de, private sellers pay no selling fee on sales within Germany. Business sellers without an eBay shop pay a category rate, for example 14% in most standard categories and 7% for electronic devices, plus EUR 0.35 per order (EUR 0.45 above EUR 10). eBay.de quotes these fees without VAT, so 19% VAT comes on top for German businesses.
