How to use the category IDs in your feed

The examples use ID 2271, Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Dresses. Send the most specific category that fits the product.

Google Merchant Center, XML feed

Put the numeric ID in google_product_category. It is optional: without it, Google picks a category from your product data.

In a tab-separated file or a Google Sheet, add a google_product_category column and fill in the ID for each product.

Shopify product CSV

Product Category takes a category from Shopify's own taxonomy. The Google Shopping / Google Product Category column holds the Google category. Use the crosswalk CSV to fill one from the other.

WooCommerce product CSV

WooCommerce has no Google category field of its own. The product CSV importer turns columns that start with Meta: into custom fields, so store the ID there and map that field to google_product_category in your feed plugin.

Look up an ID in code

The file URLs are stable, so scripts can read them directly. This looks up a path by ID with curl and jq.
