Find the Google product category for your products
Enter up to 5 product titles. Each one gets a category path and ID from Google's published product taxonomy, chosen by the same AI categorization that runs inside WISEPIM.
Why the right Google product category matters
Google Merchant Center, and many feeds and marketplaces that borrow its structure, group products with the Google product taxonomy: a tree of thousands of categories, each with a numeric ID. When you send that ID as google_product_category, you tell Google exactly what you sell instead of leaving it to guess from your title.
Picking the category by hand means searching a long tree and choosing between near neighbours, like a sofa versus a sofa bed. This finder reads your title, picks the most specific category that fits, and shows the full path and ID, a confidence level and a short reason, so you can judge the match yourself.
Every ID it shows is checked against the taxonomy file Google publishes. When no category fits well enough, it says so instead of guessing. Low confidence is a hint to make the title more specific, for example by adding the product type or material.
Doing this for a handful of products is quick. Doing it for a whole catalog, in every language you sell in, is where WISEPIM comes in: the same AI categorization runs across all your products, and your own category tree is mapped to Google's taxonomy so every feed carries the right ID.
That was a few products. Your catalog has more.
WISEPIM categorizes your whole catalog with the same AI, maps your own categories to Google's product taxonomy, and lets you review the suggestions before they reach your channels.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the Google product category for a product?
Enter the product title above and the finder returns the best-fitting category from Google's product taxonomy, with its full path and numeric ID. You can also search Google's taxonomy file yourself, but with thousands of categories, matching by hand takes a while.
Should I use the category ID or the full path in my feed?
Google accepts either in the google_product_category attribute. The numeric ID is the safer choice: it stays the same in every language, while the path text changes with the language of the taxonomy file.
How accurate is the Product Category Finder?
It uses the same AI categorization as WISEPIM, which is 95%+ accurate for category classification. Every ID is checked against the taxonomy file Google publishes, and each result shows a confidence level, so you can see which matches deserve a second look.
Is it free, and how many products can I check?
It's free and needs no account. You can check up to 5 products per day. To categorize more, create a free WISEPIM account and run the same categorization on your catalog.
Why is there no GS1 GPC code for my product?
GS1 GPC is the classification GS1 uses for barcodes and product data pools. The finder only shows a GPC brick when it's backed by a verified GPC dataset, so most results show the Google category alone.
What should I do with a low-confidence result?
Make the title more specific and try again. Adding the product type, material or intended use usually helps, for example 'stainless steel French press' instead of 'coffee maker'.
Is there an API for the Product Category Finder?
Yes. The Category Finder API returns the same Google category ID, path and confidence as JSON. API keys come with the WISEPIM Pro plan. With a key you can send up to 20 products per request and 100 per day; without one, the free browser tool checks 5 products a day. The developer docs at wisepim.com/developers/api/category-finder cover authentication, limits and code examples.
