What is UNSPSC?

UNSPSC (United Nations Standard Products and Services Code) is a global classification system that gives every type of product or service an 8-digit code. Buyers and procurement systems use these codes to group, find and report on what they purchase. Each code has four levels of two digits: Segment, Family, Class and Commodity. For example, 43211503 is Notebook computers. UNSPSC classifies broadly for spend analysis, while ETIM goes deeper into technical features for electrical and installation products. Why UNSPSC matters for e-commerce

Large companies and public buyers often require a UNSPSC code on every catalog line before they accept a supplier's data in their procurement system. Without the code, your products may not show up in the buyer's category browse or spend reports. Because the codes are language independent, a buyer in another country reads the same classification without translating category names. For a B2B seller, a correct code per product is part of being an approved supplier, next to prices, units and GTINs.
