Research report
Marketplace fees across Europe, compared by category
This report compiles the mandatory selling fees of the main European marketplaces: subscriptions, commissions and referral fees by category, fixed fees per item or order, payment and regulatory fees, and how VAT applies to each. It covers Amazon (nine EU stores), eBay (seven sites), Kaufland (nine storefronts), OTTO Market, bol, Cdiscount, Fnac Darty, Allegro (four markets), Galaxus (Germany and Switzerland), eMAG (Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary), Etsy, Empik and Zalando, plus the digital services taxes that several of these countries levy on platforms.
It turns the published rates into one comparable number: the fee on a 50 EUR sale in a given category. Every figure was checked against the marketplace's own pages, PDFs or spreadsheets, or against official tax sources, on 17 October 2026. The dataset behind this page holds 805 sourced rows.

Key findings
- Electronics is the cheapest category to sell on almost every marketplace. Amazon's euro stores, OTTO and Kaufland all charge 7% on computers and consumer electronics, which is 3.50 EUR on a 50 EUR sale1,2,3. Cdiscount charges 5% on TVs and computers6, Fnac 7% on laptops and tablets7, Galaxus 7% of the net price on notebooks (2.94 EUR)8 and Allegro 2.5% on laptops and televisions9,10.
- Jewellery is the most expensive category on six of the thirteen channels compared. On a 50 EUR piece OTTO takes 22% (11.00 EUR)2, Amazon and Cdiscount 20% (10.00 EUR)1,6, eBay.de 16% plus the per-order fee (8.45 EUR)11, Kaufland 16% (8.00 EUR)3 and Galaxus 18% of the net price (7.56 EUR)8. eBay.fr, .it, .es and .nl charge jewellery the same as other fashion or their default rate12,13,14,15.
- Monthly fixed fees range from zero to 99.90 EUR. bol, Galaxus and eMAG charge no subscription16,17,18, and eBay requires no shop11. Amazon charges 39 EUR a month for the Professional plan19, Kaufland 39.95 EUR3, Cdiscount 39.99 EUR6, Fnac Darty 49.99 EUR per marketplace in months with a sale20 and OTTO 99.90 EUR4.
- OTTO's own pages disagree on its 2.7% payment fee. The dated tariff tables say the commission includes it, while the FAQ lists it in addition2,21. On a 50 EUR item at 15% that is the difference between 7.50 EUR and 8.85 EUR, if the 2.7% is charged on the same 50 EUR2,21.
- eBay bundles payment processing but adds a 0.35% regulatory operating fee outside Germany, on eBay.fr, .it, .es, .nl, .at and .co.uk12,13,14,15,22,23. Its currency conversion charge rises from 3% to 3.25% on the EU sites on 2 December 2026, and from 2.5% to 2.75% on eBay.co.uk on 1 December 202611,23.
- One Kaufland subscription covers nine storefronts, and Poland is cheaper. The 39.95 EUR Basic fee applies across all of them3,24. Eight storefronts share commissions of 7% to 16%, while Kaufland.pl charges 4% to 12%3.
- Several marketplaces publish only part of their rates. Zalando's fee articles are login-gated25. eMAG publishes only a 7% to 23% range18,26. bol publishes category ranges that it calls an estimate16,27, and the Fnac Darty grid is labelled indicative and carries no date7.
- Amazon's recent cuts target low-priced items. Clothing up to 20 EUR, home items up to 20 EUR, and pet food, grocery and vitamins up to 10 EUR got lower rates in December 2025 and January 2026, while a 50 EUR item in those categories still pays 15%1,19,28,29. No 2027 changes were posted on the public fee pages of Amazon, eBay.de, Kaufland, bol, Allegro or Cdiscount on 17 October 202616,28,30,31,32,33.
- Amazon adds a 3% digital services fee in France, Italy and Spain. Since 20 March 2026, a seller established outside the UK, Italy and Spain, for example in Germany or the Netherlands, pays 3% on top of its Selling on Amazon fees for sales in the French, Italian and Spanish stores, and 3% of its FBA fees on sales in France5. On a 50 EUR item with a 15% referral fee that adds 0.23 EUR1,5. Amazon's public pricing pages do not mention it28.
What it costs to sell a 50 EUR product, by category
The three tables below show the commission or final value fee on one sale. The assumptions are the same for every cell: the buyer pays 50 EUR including VAT, shipping is free, the item is new, the buyer is domestic and the seller is a business with no discounts or penalties. eBay cells include the per-order fee and, where charged, the 0.35% regulatory operating fee11,12,13,14,15. OTTO's banded rates are applied to the share of the price in each band34. Galaxus charges on the net price, so its cells use 42.02 EUR (50 EUR divided by 1.19 to remove 19% VAT)17. bol cells show the lowest and highest possible fee from its published range27.
Amounts are in EUR, before any VAT the marketplace adds to its own fee, and exclude subscriptions, fulfilment, advertising and currency conversion. Amazon cells for France, Italy and Spain also exclude the 3% digital services fee that a seller established outside the UK, Italy and Spain pays on its selling fees (0.23 EUR on a 7.50 EUR fee)5. These are calculations from the published rates, not figures the marketplaces publish. A † marks a category that has no own row in the marketplace's table and falls under its default or catch-all rate.

- Fnac.com: hard drives, TVs and projectors are 6% (3.00 EUR); decoration and lifestyle items 15% (7.50 EUR); health items sit in the 12% games, toys and health line7. The Fnac grid does not name fashion, so clothing and shoes are read from the Darty label; if Fnac classes jewellery under fashion, the rate would be 11% (5.50 EUR)7.
- Fnac and Darty charge different rates on some of the same lines: Darty takes 13% (6.50 EUR) on electronics accessories and 9% (4.50 EUR) on large appliances7.
- Cdiscount: phone accessories have no own row and would take the 15% default unless the seller-space tree places them in a listed row. Parapharmacy is 16% (8.00 EUR). In toys only children's multimedia has its own row, at 10%, and in pet supplies only pet beds and housing, at 16%6.
- Allegro.sk: smartphones and smartwatches are 4.5% (2.25 EUR)9,10. Other toy leaves: LEGO 5%, non-LEGO building sets 8%, dolls 9%, 'other' leaves 17%10. Adult bicycles are 8% and most bike parts 10.5%; dog and cat food is 6%10. No garden rate was recorded for allegro.sk.
Monthly, fixed and per-order fees
Fixed costs decide whether a channel pays off at low volume. bol, Galaxus, eMAG and Allegro charge no base fee for standard selling16,17,18,32, while OTTO Market charges 99.90 EUR a month plus VAT4.

Illustration: one 50 EUR home and kitchen sale
This table adds the commission and per-order fees for a single 50 EUR kitchen item and spreads the monthly fee over an assumed 100 orders a month. Fees charged per listing, or in US dollars without an exchange rate in the sources, are shown separately and are not in the total. The volume is an assumption for illustration; at lower volumes the fixed fee weighs more.

Amazon seller fees in Europe
Amazon's euro stores (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland) share one fee structure. The Professional plan costs 39 EUR a month excluding VAT, and the Individual plan charges 0.99 EUR per item sold instead19,29,39,40,41,42,43. Sweden charges SEK 410 a month44 and Poland PLN 165.9145.
Referral fees are a percentage of the total sale price, with a minimum of 0.30 EUR per item in most categories1. Most categories pay 15%1. The exceptions that matter most at 50 EUR are computers, consumer electronics, full-size appliances and tyres at 7%, tools and home improvement at 13%, musical instruments and handmade at 12%, beer and wine at 10%, consoles at 8%, jewellery at 20% up to 250 EUR and Amazon device accessories at 45%1. The Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland add a 10% cycling category, split automotive into 7% and 12%, and have no Handmade category1. Amazon.pl uses its own, mostly lower schedule with a PLN 1 minimum, for example 5% for consumer electronics1,45.
The cuts of the past year apply to low prices only. From 15 December 2025, clothing up to 15 EUR pays 5% instead of 8%, and clothing from 15 to 20 EUR pays 10% instead of 15%19. From 5 January 2026, home products up to 20 EUR pay 8% instead of 15%19, pet clothing and pet food up to 10 EUR pay 5% instead of 15%28, and grocery and vitamins up to 10 EUR pay 5% instead of 8%29.
Media items pay a closing fee of 1.01 EUR for books and 0.81 EUR for other media (0.61 EUR on amazon.fr)1. A refunded order costs the lower of 5 EUR or 20% of the referral fee19. A listing fee of 0.0004 EUR per SKU applies only above 2 million active non-media SKUs29.
Fulfilment by Amazon is optional28. Where you use it, a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge has applied to fulfilment fees since 17 April 20261. A small parcel up to 400 g costs 3.39 EUR to fulfil in Germany outside peak, and 3.60 EUR during the peak period from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 20271. Storage for standard-size goods other than apparel, shoes, eyewear and bags costs 52.20 EUR per cubic metre per month from October to December1.
Amazon has charged a digital services fee since 1 October 202478. Since 20 March 2026, a seller established outside the UK, Italy and Spain pays 3% of its Selling on Amazon fees on sales in France, Italy and Spain, plus 3% of FBA fees on sales in France5. UK-established sellers pay 3% of selling and FBA fees in France, Italy and Spain, and Italian or Spanish sellers pay 3% of both in the UK and France stores5. The public pricing pages, including sell.amazon.de, do not mention this fee28,29.
Amazon's 2026 EU fee update also cut the variable fee caps on Best Deals and Lightning Deals to 300 EUR in Germany and 100 EUR in France, Italy and Spain, and raised selected storage, return and FBA fees in the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and Poland, from 5 January 202661. These are optional services. One point remains open: Amazon's pages contradict each other on whether VAT is part of the referral fee base19,40.
eBay fees for business sellers
On every eBay site in this report, the final value fee includes payment processing and is charged on the total amount, including shipping and VAT11,12,13,14,15,22,23. Fees are quoted excluding VAT11,12,14,23.
- eBay.de: category rate plus 0.35 EUR per order, or 0.45 EUR above 10 EUR11. The 0.45 EUR rate has applied since 12 February 202662. Home, sport and pet pay 14%, electronics devices 7%, clothing 12% and garden and DIY 13%11. Since 1 July 2026 devices, tech accessories, garden and DIY, home, sport, pet and several other categories pay one rate instead of tiered rates, and used, refurbished and 'Neu: Sonstige' items in them pay 5%63. Clothing keeps its tiered rate of 12% up to 990 EUR11. Without a shop, each fixed-price listing costs 0.35 EUR, and no regulatory operating fee is listed11.
- eBay.fr: most categories 9%, fashion and beauty 12%, devices 5%, plus 0.35 EUR per order and the 0.35% regulatory operating fee12.
- eBay.it: most categories 11%, tech devices 6.5%, plus 0.35 EUR per order and 0.35%13. Accessory leaves such as phone cases, chargers and laptop accessories pay 9.5%, although their parent categories list 8.5%36.
- eBay.es: 9% up to 990 EUR for most categories, devices 5% up to 300 EUR, plus 0.35 or 0.45 EUR per order and 0.35%14.
- eBay.nl: 11% up to 990 EUR for most categories, devices 6.5% up to 300 EUR, plus 0.35 or 0.45 EUR per order and 0.35%15.
- eBay.at: 11% up to 990 EUR by default, plus 0.35 or 0.45 EUR per order and 0.35%22.
- eBay.co.uk: category rates such as 11.9% for clothes, plus GBP 0.30 or 0.40 per order and 0.35%23.
Shops are optional. On eBay.de they cost 39.95, 79.95, 299.95 or 4,999.95 EUR a month11, and only the Platinum shop gives a percentage discount on the final value fee, 10%79. Sellers on eBay.de, .fr, .it, .es and .nl pay an international fee of 1.6% for buyers in non-euro Europe, the US and Canada, 1.2% for UK buyers and 3.3% elsewhere, while eurozone and Swedish buyers are free11,12,13,14,15. Below-standard sellers pay more, for example 6 extra percentage points on eBay.fr12. On eBay.de the surcharge rises by one more percentage point if the status lasts four consecutive months63.
Kaufland marketplace fees
Kaufland Global Marketplace runs nine storefronts: Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands80. One monthly fee covers all of them24. The Basic plan costs 39.95 EUR and the Plus plan 59.95 EUR a month excluding VAT, or 990 CZK and 175 PLN for Basic when billed through the Czech or Polish channel3. Plus adds a link to your own shop3.
Commission is calculated on the gross price including shipping, and domestic sellers pay VAT on top of it3. Sellers shipping from abroad pay no VAT on the commission81. Eight storefronts share one rate column from 7% to 16%, and Kaufland.pl has a lower column from 4% to 12%3. Kaufland maps 5,224 leaf categories to commission clusters in a public workbook35. That workbook settles some edge cases: wristwatches fall under Bags and Accessories at 14% (10% in Poland), not under Jewellery, and smartwatches pay the 7% electronics rate3,35. All toy leaves, LEGO included, map to Toys at 13%, and all pet-care leaves to Pet Supplies at 14%3,35.
Media is the only category with a fixed fee, 0.70 EUR per item on top of 13%3. Payment processing is included3, and commission is not charged on returns or cancellations24. Optional costs include a voucher redemption fee of 0.49 EUR per redeemed voucher on products under 100 EUR and an EPR service in France, Italy and Spain at 1.90 EUR per category per month3.
OTTO Market fees
OTTO Market charges a base fee of 99.90 EUR a month plus VAT4, regardless of how many products you list82. It is first charged in the month after your account is technically activated21, and the contract can be cancelled with one month's notice77.
Commission is calculated on the price including VAT plus shipping including VAT, and invoiced weekly plus VAT21. The current tables are dated 1 April 202634 and run from 7% for electronics and PC components to 22% for jewellery up to 100 EUR2. Many product groups use price bands that apply to the share of the price inside each band34. Women's clothing, for example, pays 17% up to 25 EUR, 16% up to 75 EUR and 14% above, which works out to 8.25 EUR on a 50 EUR item2. Shelf-stable food dropped from 15% to 10% on 1 July 2026, and so did pet food according to OTTO's announcement, although the pet food row sits in the table dated 1 April 20262. Partners with a validated science-based climate target get 0.5 to 1.0 percentage points off2.
Registration is open to companies based in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria and France77. New partners headquartered in the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, France, Spain or Denmark who accept an onboarding invitation between 1 June and 30 November 2026 can get 50% off self-service sponsored product ads for three calendar months, on up to 50,000 EUR of spend83.
bol commission and fees
Listing on bol is free and there is no subscription; sellers pay commission only when an item sells16. Commission has two parts: a percentage of the selling price including VAT and a fixed amount per item, both depending on the item type and sometimes on the price16. bol publishes only per-category ranges and calls them an estimate16. The figures here come from the October 2026 table linked from the commission page27; the page itself states no effective date16. Examples: kitchen items 5% to 12.5% plus 0 to 0.85 EUR, clothing 4% to 13.2% plus 0.20 to 0.85 EUR, and toys 4.1% to 20.7% plus 0.20 to 2.99 EUR27. The exact rate for an EAN at a given price is only visible in the seller account or through the authenticated API84.
Dutch sellers pay 21% VAT on the commission; sellers in other EU countries with a VAT number registered at bol use reverse charge16. Shipping cannot be charged separately and has to be built into the price, so commission also falls on the shipping part85. Selling to French-speaking Belgium adds no commission86.
Fulfilment by bol (Logistiek via bol) is optional. At selling prices from 16 EUR it costs 3.05 EUR (3XS) to 7.33 EUR (L) per ordered item, with storage from 0.14 to 0.95 EUR per item per month87. Storage costs 40% more in November and December68, and stock older than 180 days has paid double storage since 1 January 202660. Shipping labels through bol start at 4.02 EUR for a letterbox parcel and 5.56 EUR for a parcel within the Netherlands at the lowest volume tier88, with a 0.30 EUR peak surcharge per parcel from 15 November to 31 December 202669.
Cdiscount and Fnac Darty fees
Cdiscount charges 39.99 EUR excluding VAT per month, plus commission6. Commission is the category rate times the price including VAT plus shipping including VAT, and 20% VAT is added to it6. The default rate is 15% for new products and 17% for used or refurbished ones, which pay 2 percentage points more in every category6. Rates run from 5% for TVs and computers to 20% for jewellery, with furniture at 17%, watches at 16% and DIY at 12%6. Many familiar categories have no own row and take the 15% default, including general pet supplies, most toys and sport6. When the buyer pays in four instalments, a 50 EUR item adds 0.40 EUR excluding VAT6. Cdiscount also holds back sales proceeds as a guarantee: 3 to 15 days depending on how you ship, plus 21 days during the first weeks of activity6. The contractual terms in force from 15 October 2026 are newer than the grid on the public tariff page, which still says it applies from 30 March 20196,33.
Fnac Darty charges 49.99 EUR excluding VAT per month for each marketplace, but only in months with at least one sale20. Commission is calculated on the order total including VAT and shipping, and 20% VAT is added to it7. The commission grid linked from the seller page sets rates for new products from 6% to 15%, with used products paying more7. The grid is labelled indicative, says the binding grid is in the seller terms, and carries no effective date; its file metadata says it was created in November 20237. Fees for Belgium, Spain and Portugal are not published20.

Allegro commission
Allegro charges no listing fee for standard merchandise; commission is the only base fee32. The commission tables for Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary all state rates from 2 March 2026 and were still the tables linked from the fee pages on 17 October 20269,10,38. Commission is net and charged on the item price plus delivery paid by the buyer89,90. Rates are mostly the same across the four markets, with caps and tier breakpoints in local currency: 2.5% for laptops and televisions, 4.5% for smartphones, 8.5% for books, 11% for pots and 17% for 'other' leaf categories9,10,38. Fashion pays 11.5% up to 25 EUR on allegro.sk and 7.5% above37. OTC medicines are the main cross-market difference: 1% in Poland, 10.5% in Czechia and Hungary and 0% in Slovakia10. On allegro.hu a local levy of 3.6% net on price plus delivery comes on top49.
Within one category, leaf rates can differ widely, so check the leaf your product sits in. On allegro.sk most toy leaves pay 11.5%, but LEGO sets pay 5%, dolls 9% and 'other' leaves 17%10. Most pet-supply leaves pay 10.5%, while dog and cat food pays 6%10. Most sport leaves pay 11.5%, while adult bicycles pay 8%10.
Subscriptions are optional, and in Poland they are for business accounts only: 49 to 3,000 PLN gross per 30 days in Poland32, 8.12 to 536.59 EUR net in Slovakia48, 199.19 to 12,195.12 CZK net in Czechia47 and 4,500 to 275,000 HUF gross in Hungary49. Allegro Smart! sellers pay a delivery fee per shipment; on allegro.sk an order of 34.50 EUR or more costs 2.39 EUR to a parcel locker and 2.69 EUR by courier91.
Two temporary programmes are running. Export 2.0, from 3 August 2026 to 31 March 2027, refunds 100% of the commission on export sales of new offers. It covers only offers not listed on that foreign market in the previous 90 days, requires gross prices no more than 8% above allegro.pl, and excludes Welcome programme participants64. A sport promotion from 1 September 2026 caps commission in selected sport categories at 147.60 PLN gross per item above 1,500 PLN on allegro.pl, and at 24 EUR net per item above 209 EUR on allegro.sk, where it runs until 31 March 202766,67.
Galaxus marketplace fees
Galaxus charges no basic fee, no one-off costs and no fixed fee per order; sellers pay only a sales fee on items sold17,54. The fee is a percentage of the net price excluding VAT, set per product type, and VAT is charged on top of it17. The binding rates are in product-type spreadsheets dated 27 February 2026 for Germany and 28 April 2026 for Switzerland8,92. In Galaxus's indicative, non-binding table by assortment group, the German rates run from 1.5% (do it and garden) to 18% (apparel and household)17, and the Swiss rates go up to 20%54. On a 50 EUR sale in Germany that is 2.94 EUR for notebooks and washing machines, 5.88 EUR for T-shirts and sneakers and 7.56 EUR for necklaces8. Galaxus has no default rate17. In Switzerland, Galaxus has accounted for VAT on marketplace sales to consumers since 1 January 2025, and some categories such as fashion carry a return shipping charge of CHF 6.05 per return93.
eMAG marketplace fees
eMAG charges no subscription, listing or account management fee in Romania, Bulgaria or Hungary; commission is the only base cost18,52,53. Its seller pages give a commission range of 7% to 23% depending on category, the same in all three countries18,94. Older help pages still say 7% to 25%26. The category grid is in the seller contract, which you see before signing26, so a 50 EUR sale can only be bounded: 3.50 EUR at 7% and 11.50 EUR at 23%18. New sellers are offered commission discounts with a monthly advertising credit, for example 30% off and 200 RON in Romania, but the terms and duration are not published18. Sellers who join the Genius programme pay a contribution per Genius order, also not published18.
Etsy fees for EU sellers
Etsy has no category rates. Every listing costs USD 0.20 for four months50, each sale pays a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping57, and payment processing costs 4% plus 0.30 EUR in euro countries and in Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania58. On a 50 EUR order that is 3.25 EUR plus 2.30 EUR, or 5.55 EUR, plus the listing fee50,57,58. Sellers in France, Italy and Spain pay a regulatory operating fee of 1.14%, 0.80% and 0.88% respectively59. Etsy's dedicated article also lists Hungary at 1.97%, but its newer fee overview does not name Hungary50,59.
Offsite Ads cost 15% of an attributed order, or 12% and mandatory once a shop has made 10,000 USD in any 365 days, capped at 100 USD per order95. Currency conversion costs 2.5% when the listing currency differs from your payment account currency96. EU shops with a VAT ID on file are not charged VAT on fees, except in Ireland97.
Empik, Temu, SHEIN and Manor
Empik in Poland charges a category commission on the gross order value including delivery98. Examples from its grid: electronics 9.00%, clothing 13.00% and home and garden 11.70%, all net99. A platform fee of 0.45% comes on top98. When you are the preferred BuyBox seller, an extra fee of 25% of the commission applies, which paid plans reduce51,98. The Standard plan is free, and PLUS and MAX cost 99 and 499 PLN net per 30 days51.
Temu's EU local seller programme has free registration and a base-price model with no commission taken from the base price; it publishes no fee schedule55. Manor in Switzerland runs an e-consignment model and publishes no fees100. SHEIN's seller portal requires a login; a third-party summary gives a referral fee of 10% on its EU sites and 12.24% in the UK, with 0% for a new seller's first 30 days, based on data from September 2025101. This is a secondary source.
Zalando fees
Zalando does not publish its commission. Its partner fee articles sit in a section it describes as publicly inaccessible25. The fee structure has four named parts: a platform base fee, a Marketplace Service fee, a Payment Service fee and a Convenience Incentive25. None of their amounts is public56,102. Zalando's half-year report confirms that in the partner business its revenue is the commission it earns103. Access is by invitation only104, and the Partner Program covers 25 markets105.
According to trade press citing a Zalando statement, Zalando is ending its Connected Retail model, whose technology is switched off by 30 June 2027, and has applied the same standard marketplace service fees to all partners since September 202665. Former Connected Retail retailers get a 2 percentage point reduction until the end of 2027, and early switchers 1 more point for six months65. Zalando's fulfilment service has no baseline fee106, and its public invoice guide names a 0.15 EUR peak surcharge from 15 October to 31 January107.
What the percentage is charged on, and VAT on fees
Most marketplaces calculate commission on the price the buyer pays, including VAT and shipping. A fee on a VAT-inclusive price is a larger share of your net revenue than the headline rate suggests. Galaxus is the only marketplace in this report that states it charges on the net price17.

Taxes behind some fees
Several countries tax large digital platforms directly. France and Italy both levy 3%, and both taxes cover marketplaces that let users trade with each other112,113. France's tax applies to groups above 750 million EUR of worldwide and 25 million EUR of French in-scope revenue, and the 2026 finance law left it unchanged112,114. Italy now applies only the 750 million EUR worldwide threshold, and from 1 January 2027 its tax moves to a new consolidated law at the same 3% rate70,71,113. Spain's tax is 3%115, the UK's is 2% of revenues from UK users and covers online marketplaces116, and Turkey's is 5% in 2026 and 2.5% from 202772. Austria's 5% tax applies to online advertising only, not to marketplace intermediation117,118.
Three proposals could change this from 2027. In France, an amendment to the 2027 budget bill would raise the rate from 3% to 15% and the worldwide threshold to 2 billion EUR for tax due for 2027; it was not enacted on 17 October 202673. Poland published a draft 3% tax that covers marketplaces on 31 July 2026, with a planned start on 1 January 2027 and thresholds of 1 billion EUR worldwide and 25 million PLN in Poland, according to a KPMG summary of the draft74. A Belgian members' bill of April 2026 proposes 3% for groups above 750 million EUR of worldwide revenue from 1 January 2027; its progress was not verified75.
These are taxes on the platform, not seller fees. Amazon introduced its digital services fee in October 2024 to account for these taxes78. Since March 2026 it charges 3% on sales in France, Italy and Spain for most sellers established elsewhere, and in the UK store for Italian and Spanish sellers5. For business-to-business services between EU countries, the general rule is reverse charge: the supplier charges no VAT and the business customer accounts for it110.
| Tax or marketplace | Country | Rate and scope | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| France TSN | FR | 3% of in-scope revenue attributed to France; covers marketplace intermediation | 112 |
| France TSN | FR | 2026 finance law: no amendment to the TSN articles; rate stays 3% | 114, 119 |
| Italy ISD | IT | 3% of taxable revenue; covers multi-sided interfaces including marketplaces | 113 |
| Spain IDSD | ES | 3%; covers online intermediation, online advertising and data transfer | 115 |
| UK DST | UK | 2% of revenues from UK users; online marketplaces in scope | 116 |
| Austria Digitalsteuer | AT | 5% on online advertising only; marketplace intermediation not taxed | 117, 118 |
| Turkey DHV | TR | 5% from 1 Jan 2026, 2.5% from 1 Jan 2027 (statutory 7.5%) | 72 |
| France TSN (proposal) | FR | Amendment to the 2027 budget bill: 15% and a 2 billion EUR threshold for 2027; not enacted | 73 |
| Poland (draft) | PL | 3%, marketplaces in scope, planned from 1 Jan 2027 (rate and scope per a KPMG summary); not enacted | 74 |
| Belgium (bill) | BE | 3% above 750 million EUR worldwide revenue, from 1 Jan 2027; not enacted | 75 |
| Amazon digital services fee | FR, IT, ES, UK | Charged since 1 Oct 2024; since 20 Mar 2026, 3% of selling fees (and of FBA fees in some cases); not on the public pricing pages | 5, 28, 78 |
Where sources disagree
The dataset records 84 conflicts between or within official sources. These are the ones that change a fee calculation or a date, and how this report resolves them.
- OTTO payment fee: the tariff tables dated 1 April and 1 July 2026 say the commission includes the 2.7% payment fee; the undated FAQ lists it in addition2,21,34. This report uses the table rates as published.
- OTTO pet food date: the announcement ties the cut to 10% to 1 July, while the pet food row sits in a table dated 1 April 20262.
- Amazon referral fee base: fee tables define the base as the total paid by the buyer, the FAQs on several stores say the percentage excludes taxes, and the Spanish glossary says the base includes VAT19,40. Check the fee reports in Seller Central before modelling margins.
- Amazon peak dates: the July 2026 rate card's headers give the festive peak as 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, but two of its footnotes still give the previous season's dates1. The header dates are used.
- Amazon minimums and storage: the Belgian page swaps the minimum referral fee between toys and consoles compared with every other euro store, and the Irish page shows older FBA storage rates than the July 2026 rate card1,42,43. The rate card is used.
- Kaufland advertising credit: one check of the conditions page found the 30 EUR monthly credit included only in Plus; a second check read it as part of both plans3,31.
- Kaufland commission base: the English, German and Spanish pages add VAT on top of the commission; the Polish and Czech pages describe the base as the gross price including VAT3. Both readings use the VAT-inclusive consumer price as the base.
- Cdiscount small appliances: the contractual terms in force from 15 October 2026 set used and refurbished small appliances and appliance accessories at 12%; the public tariff page, dated 2019, says 10%6,33. The contractual terms are used.
- Fnac Darty grid date: the downloaded file carries no date and its metadata says November 20237. The effective date is treated as unstated.
- bol kitchen items: the worked example on the commission page uses a fixed amount of 0.05 to 0.95 EUR, while the October 2026 table says 0 to 0.85 EUR16,27. The table is used.
- eMAG commission ceiling: the current seller pages say 7% to 23%; older help pages say 7% to 25%18,26.
- eBay.it accessories: parent categories list 8.5%, while the accessory leaves below them pay 9.5%36. The table uses 9.5%.
- eBay international fee wording: the French, Italian and Spanish text reads as if Swedish buyers were charged, but the tables show Sweden as free12,13,14. The tables are used.
- Allegro fashion thresholds: the Polish, Czech and Hungarian fee pages give fashion thresholds or examples that differ from the official commission tables9,32,37,38,47,49. The tables are used.
- Etsy regulatory fee for Hungary: the dedicated article lists Hungary at 1.97%; the newer overview omits Hungary50,59.
Methodology
Scope: mandatory fees for a business seller, meaning subscriptions or base fees, commission or referral fees by category, fixed fees per item or order, payment and regulatory fees, and the VAT treatment of fees. Optional services such as fulfilment, shipping labels, advertising and premium plans are described per marketplace but are not part of the 50 EUR comparison. Digital services taxes are included as context because they are levied on platforms, not on sellers.
Sources: every figure comes from the marketplace's own fee pages, help articles, contractual terms, rate cards and fee spreadsheets, or from official government and legislative sources for taxes. The EU's Your Europe portal is used for the general VAT rule110. Two secondary sources are cited, for Zalando and SHEIN65,101, and the rate, scope and thresholds of the Polish draft tax come from a KPMG summary74; all three are labelled in the text. Where two official sources disagree, the newer contractual or dated document is preferred and the conflict is recorded.
Process: ten research lanes and five follow-up lanes collected the rows. A second pass re-fetched every source on 17 October 2026 and corrected rows where the value, scope or date did not match. One row that could not be re-confirmed is left out. Duplicate rows were merged, leaving 805 published rows. Sources were reached by direct URL; announcements published only outside the marketplaces' own sites may be missing. Rakuten France and ManoMano blocked automated access and are not covered.
Calculations: the 50 EUR figures are arithmetic on the published rates under the stated assumptions. They are not figures the marketplaces publish. Tiered and banded rates and Galaxus's net-price base mean the figures cannot be scaled linearly to other prices.
Refresh: all figures were last verified on 17 October 2026. The plan is a full re-check every quarter, a monthly check of the Amazon, eBay, Kaufland and OTTO fee pages, and an immediate update when a marketplace announces a dated change, such as eBay's currency conversion changes on 1 and 2 December 202611,23 or the end of Amazon's FBA peak period on 14 January 20271.
